Our roots

From a kitchen in Italy to 111 Avenue.

Tony Mazzotta Sr. opened the first Tony's on Gun Hill Road in the Bronx, New York, in 1964. He brought the recipe to Edmonton in 1974, and his sons run the kitchen off it today.

In 2018 Avenue Magazine named it the “Best Tried and True” Pizza in Edmonton.

Three countries. One recipe. Still by hand.

Come in and enjoy pizza at its finest.

Mozzarella and our marinated sauce on a thin 16-inch crust. This is the one that started it. You fold it in half.

In the kitchen

From the heart of New York to the heart of Edmonton.

Real footage from the line. Sauce and cheese still go on by hand, one pie at a time, before it slides into the oven.

Tony brought the recipe over from the Bronx. His sons still work off it.

“I am currently sitting in Italy eating a capricciosa pizza. I came half way around the world to find out Tony’s Pizza in Edmonton is even better than the pizza they serve in Italy. I tip my hat to you, sir Tony.”

“Listen if you don’t wanna see a second and third generation of the same family from Italy via New York City throwing pies high in the air go to Dominos no risk of that there.…”

Press

Condé Nast called Edmonton a great pizza city. They came here.

The Globe and Mail and CBC did too, and the local awards go back to 2000. The full list and the family's history are on one page.
